You can stop clapping now
Our little boy was born about 11:30 last night, after a mercifully short labour which was brought about with one of these (an ultrasound in the afternoon showed it Was Time). We’ll probably call him Jethro, and he’s a bit over 9 pounds.
Home today, after just 13 hours in the hospital and everyone is well and very happy.
Some more photos up now at my flickr page for anyone feeling clucky.

Well done you! Sage looks delighted with his new brother. He looks like a Jethro.
January 20th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
Woo hoo. Welcome (probably to be named) Jethro and congrats to you Zoe and your family.
January 20th, 2007 at 10:00 pm
Au contraire, I think now is exactly the time to *start* clapping. Congrats you crazy kids.
January 20th, 2007 at 10:19 pm
Yes, now we clap fast. Not least because he seems to have held on till the sun moved into Aquarius, which means he’ll be good with computers.
What a glorious photograph.
January 20th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
Also, of course, I am very glad everything went so well!
January 20th, 2007 at 10:35 pm

Well done!
Congratulations!
Welcome probably-to-be-named-Jethro!
Glad everything went well.
January 20th, 2007 at 11:14 pm
Fantabulous – so glad it went well. Quite partial to the old crochet hook myself, even if it does make a bit of a mess.
Jethro is a great name too, and that lovely gentle pat from Sage seems a very nice start to the world for the wee thing.
Lots of love and hugs!!

*stands*
*applauds* *stamps feet* *applauds until hands are sore*
*sheds small tear out of sight of partner*

Congratulations, glad all went smoothly.

Congratulations and a big welcome to the newest addition to the family!
January 21st, 2007 at 3:48 am
Yay…i’ll build a snowman for him. Jethro is a cool name, but can he play the flute?
Congrats.
January 21st, 2007 at 5:12 am
Congrats, Zoe and clan!
Jethro is a fine name despite the pretensions of that bloke with the flute – although the only bloke I ever knew named that was a bloke in a bushwalking club best described as “colourful”. No reptile was safe from capture so it could be exhibited for us young’uns (they were always released in short order) although often the goannas managed to get away up a tree.
He had a tattoo on one arse-cheek saying “Made in Australia” that 9-year-old me thought was the coolest thing evah. He streaked and skinny-dipped at the drop of a hat, and I clearly remember him demonstrating the art of lighting farts in a cabin in the Snowies. He was good smutty raucous fun, and made time for kids.
Your new lad could do worse than grow up with some of that.

Cooooot & congratumulations!
My lil one, in the bassinette beside me, sends a kiss and a gudday to Jethro. Well, to be exact, she says “ngh… eh… ehh…. a-huh… ngh… eh,eh,eh…”
Lefty baby group to commence shortly with the impending arrival of young 3rd pea…
January 21st, 2007 at 2:27 pm
Now is the time to start thinking of the boys’ future. An arranged marriage of one of them to the Armaniac family and a future Prime Minister is in the making. Notice I did not mention gender.
I cry worse at baby pics than at kittens.
January 21st, 2007 at 3:13 pm
Congrats to you all. He looks gorgeous, as does his admiring brother. (And not too big after all!).
January 21st, 2007 at 3:44 pm
good work.
I suppose he’ll be stuck with Jethro tull he dies.
January 21st, 2007 at 3:50 pm

I am so proud, as if i was one of those cool pretty-young-sort of aunties.
Welcome to the outside world little fella.

But anyway well done Owen. Good thing Zoe was there to help out a bit at the end.
And Zoe, now you can start drinking again. Congratulations.
Like the way Sage is already checking out where the ticklish spots are.

*MEN. Of course.
January 22nd, 2007 at 10:25 am
Created by Zowe and loved by all.
Good on you love. The steak sangas are on me.

Yay! I’m slow on the uptake – been busy flying across the sea – but well done, that woman! (and the boys too).
January 22nd, 2007 at 5:48 pm
Well done to all, & welcome kiddo. We’ll make sure its a bit saner by the time you can talk. First Howard, then Bush…..
January 22nd, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Thanks, everyone. Jethro is a little dream baby – compared to Sage who was crook and had a difficult time, it’s been really easy and happy. I’ve put up some more photos at flickr for the clucky.
January 22nd, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Congratulations!
Someone seems to have put your baby in a cage? Surely they are harmless at that age, and it’s only once they develop teeth that you need to start making sure there are bars between them and you (recommend a safety barrier (perhaps a moat) be installed at that point also so that Sage does not get his fingers nipped).
Unless he was born with teeth. In which case he’s a vampire.
No, really, congratulations, he’s gorgeous.
January 22nd, 2007 at 9:41 pm
YAY!
(I’m sorry I’m so late.)
Look at all that hair! *melts*
Damn, now I want one. Stupid biology. But, um, could we NOT do the long sharp scary pointy thing? Gaa-aa-aaaah.
January 23rd, 2007 at 9:40 am
OI! Jellyfish! How about you do some producing of your own?
Blogwise of course.
Pretty please.
PS Oh and Zoe blahblah good work etc etc
January 23rd, 2007 at 12:52 pm

January 23rd, 2007 at 7:44 pm
Yay, congratulations! And Happy Birthday to maybe-Jethro (great name, not that you need any approval), and congratulations to the new big brother.
And Eek! that thing looks scary – did it hurt?
January 23rd, 2007 at 9:04 pm

January 23rd, 2007 at 10:06 pm
what a touching and lovely photo..
and congratulations, cheers, claps..
whooooooeeeeeeeoooooo YES!
January 23rd, 2007 at 10:23 pm
Geebus, I just looked at the instrument. They just had to show it to you right? Looks seriously, bloody dangerous, especially in those soft crevices where babies lurk.
January 24th, 2007 at 7:47 am
Nah, they didn’t show me it, but I looked. The only reason I put it in the post is that some recent comments about the place about being sick of boring soft girly stuff like pregnancy and birth posts made me cross with their ignorance or disregard for the strength and power it takes to push a (very large) baby out of your bum.
So the hook’s for the h8tas
I don’t care if people aren’t interested in this stuff, that’s entirely up to them, but let’s not pretend we’re talking about something with the significance of going shopping or getting a new hairdo when we talk about fertility and birthing.
January 24th, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Congratulations Zoe, Zoe’s family, and especially the newest member!
January 24th, 2007 at 2:35 pm
[...] Zoe is the mother of a brand new baby boy. Congratulations! [...]
January 24th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
Well done! Best wishes for lots of fun ahead.
January 24th, 2007 at 9:24 pm
Congratulations & best wishes from blues bunch to yours!
January 25th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
Congratulations dear Zoe.
January 30th, 2007 at 9:33 am
Hooray!!!
January 30th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
Congrats Zoe! It’s certainly not easy pushing someone that robust out of one’s bot, and what you really need after is a couple of weeks of R & R while you recover before you start feeding/rocking/changing. Hope the littlun is sleeping lots.
For anyone who (naively) thinks that birth is all hearts and flowers, I’ve got one word: Tearing. (And even without the tearing, it really bloody hurts)
February 6th, 2007 at 12:44 am
Yeah, yeah, yeah, very cute fotos etc. But the holiday’s over now. Dump the spawn in a ventilated container and get back to blogging.
He’ll leave home eventually but we’ll be around like forever.
(often on the right thread too.)
February 6th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Congrats Zoe!
June 27th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
I believe a similar implement will be something I’m rather intimate with next Tuesday. Unless this one decides to come out sometime before then.
Sorry for the comment on old posts, am catching up as Suse over at PeaSoup alerted me to your blog as Sage is on our list of names for our fourth (and final) sprogget.
